Automotive Diagnostics

Continued advancement in computer technology lead to some amazing developments in the automotive industry. These technologies allow fine control over mechanical systems and lead to amazing features like electronic ignition and fuel injection that we take for granted today.

Although they are elegant and powerful, these systems are very complex. Gone are the days when you could turn a screw on a carburettor to tune your car. Today we use software engineering to fine tune our cars.

More Than Just Mechanical Gains

Modern computerised engine management systems are very reliable and customisable, but their power is not limited to performance.

The technologies in your car can monitor more than just your car’s engine and transmission. They constantly monitor a range of different systems such as emission control, air-conditioning, air bags, tyre pressure and many more.

If you would like to learn about how the computer technology in your car can be upgraded, please visit our Engine Tuning and Performance page.

When Something Goes Wrong

So all of these systems in your car are being carefully monitored, which can mean only 1 thing: something may go wrong!

Don't be Alarmed

There are many factors that contribute to the lifetime and performance of any component in your vehicle. Manufacturers are getting very good and building reliable and long lasting cars, but thing inevitably go wrong.

That's ok, these problems can be fixed. AutoTechniker will have you back on the road in no time.

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)

Modern cars are clever enough to let you know when something isn't quite right. If a problem is detected with any of the various systems your car is designed to monitor, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) or Check Engine Light will light up.

If you see any warning lights you should act on them as soon as possible. Early detection is key to not only fixing the problem but also stopping any potential problems with connected systems.

The Chaos Effect

Since the systems in your car are monitored by a central computer, they are effectively bound together. This means that a problem in one component can permeate through to other systems if is not investigated and resolved quickly.

For example, if an oxygen sensor is providing faulty information to the computer, it will not be able to establish a good air to fuel ratio. This can lead to misfires. When caught early the sensor can be replaced (if needed) stopping any other problems. If it is not dealt with quickly the continued misfires could lead to cracked cylinder heads, which means an engine rebuild! Thousands of dollars in repairs can be avoided by quickly replacing the sensor for next to nothing!

Where does AutoTechniker Fit in

Problems That You Don't Know About

Modern cars are complex systems and things don't always go as planned. If any minor fault occurs that doesn't require immediate attention, your car will not light up the dash with colours, it will simply log an error in the system and keep on going.

It is up to your service specialist to download and interpret this information and decide the best course of action. In most cases, this may be a simple as restarting a system resetting the fault codes. Oh, and the good part about that is it won't cost you anything! Any detectable faults that can be corrected by our programs with be completed free of charge.

Our Recommendations

  1. Ensure your vehicle is serviced at regular intervals
  2. Interface with your vehicles onboard diagnostics at every service
  3. Correct all faults detected, no matter how minor!
  4. Update your vehicles factory software

Dealerships Don't Have Special Powers

There was a time when a cars systems could not be upgraded with factory software unless it was taken to a dealership.

Those days are now thankfully over!

When dealerships had a monopoly they were free to charge as much as they like. Consumers now have a choice, and competition is always good for consumers! Competition drives prices down and the focus becomes the quality of service.

Unfortunately, the dealerships had their monopoly for long enough to perpetuate the myth that they are the only place your systems can be upgraded. But those days are almost over!

Technology

At AutoTechniker we can provide a greater service than that offered by a dealership and at a competitive price! We are licensed to use factory software and will perform any and all upgrades recommended by the manufacturer as part of our service.
